Our CA/NV Conference United Methodist Women are offering a virtual Social Action event, “A Path Appears.”  The focus of the event is “Transforming Lives: Prison and School Reform.”

• Matthew D. Ochs, Social Studies teacher, Reno High School
• Student Representatives, Students for Change, Washoe County School District, NV
• Student Representative and Founder, Reno High School Black Student Union
• Student Representatives, Washoe County School District Diversify our Narrative

In this exciting event, we have a retired prison doctor and change maker speaking.  In addition, perhaps as many as 10 high school students, all female, will talk about the work of 3 organizations they have founded that promote inclusion and work for change in the school district.  Because of our young speakers, we encourage making a special effort to reach out to young people in our church to register and participate.

Monthly “Just Energy for All Strategy and Capacity Building” sessions are intended to provide an opportunity to network, share best practices, and support you in your work of advancing just energy for all at the local, state, and national levels. You don’t need to be a United Methodist Women member to join us. All are welcome!

Sessions take place from Noon to 1:30pm PT (3:00 pm to 4:30 pm ET) on the 3rd Wednesday of each month.  To attend, please register here!

McCurdy Ministries Community Center

The Susquehanna Conference (Pennsylvania) of The United Methodist Church is offering a VIRTUAL MISSION TRIP to McCurdy Ministries Community Center in Española, NM.  Zoom sessions will be Sunday, February 7, Wednesday, February 10 and Thursday, February 11, all beginning at 3:30PM PST (6:30 PM EST). No previous Volunteer in Mission (VIM) training is required. No previous McCurdy experience is required. This trip is open to absolutely everyone who wants to learn more about the difference that is being made in the name of Jesus Christ at McCurdy. 

 The trip will be led by Jason Schwartzman, pastor in the Susquehanna Conference in Pennsylvania and frequent McCurdy VIM Team Leader, Linda Gilgore, also a McCurdy “super volunteer” and Michelle Schwartzman, the Volunteers in Mission coordinator for the Susquehanna Conference of the United Methodist Church.

California-Nevada United Methodist Lay Leader Micheal Pope will be featured in the third in a series of webinar panel discussions entitled “Raise Up Your Voice Against Racism” Monday, January 25, 5pm PST.

The Asian American Language Ministry Plan, the General Board of Church and Society (GBCS) and the New Federation of Asian American United Methodists (NFAAUM), have launched a series of six webinars entitled “Raise Up Your Voice Against Racism”. 

In this webinar will hear from our African American brothers and sisters. How is racism viewed for the perspective of our African American brothers and sisters? What would our African American brothers and sisters like to say to the Asian American United Methodists at such a time as this?

Micheal Pope will participate alongside the Rev. Quentisha Davis Wiles, Pastor at Pittsburg UMC in the Bay District, and Erin Hawkins, the Executive Director of Connectional Ministries in the California-Pacific Conference and former General Secretary with the General Commission on Religion and Race.
